barn-picEvery year, the Friends of Minnesota Barns (FOMB) holds its Barn of the Year Award contest to highlight barn owners who have preserved their Minnesota barns. This year FOMB received 61 entries from 36 Minnesota counties. In the last 2 years, they have received entries from 51 Minnesota counties. The contest is a great success since one of the goals was to reach outstate barn owners with the barn preservation message of FoMB.

The Barn of the Year award was created to recognize barn owners who have made efforts to preserve their barns and help to provide preservation examples and ideas to other barn owners.

At the FOMB’s annual HarvestFest, held on December 5, the Bruentrup Heritage farm was awarded Barn of the Year for for community use, a new category created especially for this honor, which fits the Bruentrup Farm, located
in an urban area. The Maplewood Historical Society pleased to have been a part of the restoration and preservation of the farm in order for Bruentrup Heritage Farm to receive this honor from the FOMB.
